                              The Story

After a slow start in 1953, Chevrolet’s Corvette grew and evolved steadily throughout the 1950s. By the early ‘60s, it was time for something all new and revolutionary—hence the new-for-1963 Corvette Sting Ray in convertible and split-window coupe form. Designed by the gifted hands and minds of Larry Shinoda and Peter Brock, the new Corvette was a trendsetter in countless ways. It was the first Corvette to be produced in two distinct bodystyles, an open convertible roadster and the uber sporty and compelling split window coupe. Model year 1963 also marked the first use of an independent rear suspension. The fuel-injected 327 CI V-8 continued as a topline engine offering, and the legendary Z06 model was a factory-built race car.

The trademark spine that neatly splits the rear window lines (and glass) in two went away for 1964, making this racy ’63 coupe a one-year body style and certainly among the most sought after Corvettes today. The new platform was highly versatile and could be configured as a rough and ready road racer, a comfortable and luxurious grand tourer, a drag racer or even a casual yet sporty boulevard cruiser.

The car on offer here is a highly unique build underpinned with a modern Jameson tubular frame, and it’s all with an eye toward blending a combination of later factory Corvette and premium aftermarket components. Power comes from an Edelbrock supercharged LS7 V-8 backed by a 5-speed manual transmission. The later C4 Corvette model spec provides suspension control arms and brakes, and the third member is an ultra strong Dana44 with a 3.73:1 final drive. The brakes are electronically power assisted. Evidencing more OEM Corvette vibe are the factory-style side pipes with stainless steel tubing and mufflers. The gleaming C6 ZR1-style alloy wheels are wrapped by 18-inch Michelin Sport A/S tires. The vibrant red cabin features power windows and steering, and the hood is also power actuated. The brilliant multistage paint is Mercedes-Benz Iridium Silver. Should you desire a well thought out and beautifully built 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Spilt Window Coupe that retains a certain OEM vibe about it, this Corvette warrants thorough inspection and consideration.
