                                                The Story – BaT

This 2006 Ford GT is one of 2,011 built for the model year and is powered by a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 linked with a six-speed manual gearbox and a helical limited-slip differential. The car is finished in Mark II Black over Ebony leather and is equipped with all four factory options including forged aluminum BBS wheels, red-finished brake calipers, painted silver stripes, and a McIntosh stereo system. This Ford GT has 8k miles and is now offered with a Deluxe Marti Report, manufacturer’s literature, two keys, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean Maryland title.

The GT took inspiration from the GT40 racing cars of the 1960s and features an extruded-aluminum space frame, roll-bonded floors, and aluminum body panels. This example is one of 292 finished in Mark II Black for the model year and features optional over-the-top silver stripes and Ford GT graphics as well as HID headlights, fog lights, side air intakes, a vented hood, a front splitter, a rear diffuser, and a dual center-exit exhaust system.

Factory-optional BBS forged alloy wheels measure 18″ in diameter up front and 19″ out back and were recently mounted with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A front and RE050A Scuderia rear tires. The Brembo braking system features optional red-painted four-piston monoblock calipers with cross-drilled and ventilated rotors that measure 14” up front and 13.2” out back.

The cockpit is trimmed in Ebony leather, and rubber mats cover bare aluminum floors. Manually adjusted seats were designed by Sparco and feature carbon-fiber shells with GT40-style ventilation grommets and harness slots. The console on the center tunnel houses rotary climate controls, and amenities include a McIntosh CD stereo, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, and push-button ignition.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel is affixed to a tilting and telescoping column ahead of the GT40-inspired instrument array consisting of a central tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline and an offset 220-mph speedometer. Toggle-switch controls are positioned under additional gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, boost, and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 8k miles.

The mid-mounted 5.4-liter DOHC V8 features an aluminum block, cylinder heads, and pistons in addition to a Lysholm screw-type supercharger, a dry-sump lubrication system, and a water-to-air intercooler. Factory-rated output was 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.

A Deluxe Marti Report is included in the sale, along with manufacturer’s literature and two keys.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists registration history in Arizona and Maryland. Manufacturer safety recalls were issued in May 2015 and January 2019 for the airbag inflators.

          The Story – Mecum

Opportunities to acquire a 2005-06 Ford GT don’t come along very often. Over the two years of production, Ford built only 4,033 Ford GTs, 2,022 in 2005 and 2,011 in 2006, each snapped up by eager and Ford-qualified buyers at nearly $150,000 each, not including dealer mark-up. Once ensconced in their garages, most owners have hung on to their acquisitions as an ultra-rare collectible that’s also fun to drive with its supercharged 5.4L V-8 and Ricardo 6-speed manual transmission. Showing only 8,622 miles, this 2006 Ford GT is an impressively low-mile example. One of just 185 produced in Mark II Black with full stripes for 2006, the impressive Ford supercar is equipped with all four of the available options that year—full stripes (side and Lemans), red brake calipers, BBS forged aluminum wheels and a McIntosh stereo.

Ford SVT’s modern rendition of the original Ford GT40 connected the historical dots to Ford’s legendary 1-2-3 victory at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. With a retro-modern shape designed by Camilo Pardo under the guidance of Ford Design Chief J. Mays, the 2005-06 Ford GTs incorporated many of the original’s signature engineering and design cues, including the hood-ducted radiator air flow, doors that cut into the roof and functional air intake scoops in the rear quarters. Unlike the race-oriented GT40s from the 1960s, the late-model Ford GTs boast expected modern amenities like a leather interior, pushbutton start, air conditioning, power rack-and-pinion steering, a powerful stereo and power windows and door locks.

With an aluminum body on an extruded aluminum space frame, Ford GTs also featured a Recardo 6-speed transmission, double wishbone SLA suspension with coilovers and underbody aerodynamic system. Like its brethren, this 2006 Ford GT’s rear-mounted, supercharged, hand-built, aluminum 5.4L DOHC V-8 churns out 550 HP thanks to an Eaton screw-type supercharger. This 2006 Ford GT is accompanied by an owner’s manual and valve cover plaque featuring the signatures of the Niche Line engine builders at Ford’s Romeo engine plant.
